gifts. Santa Claus is believed to ride on sleigh singing HO! HO! HO!
The mythical story of Santa Claus is recreated even in present times
and even today Santa Claus, the legendary bringer of gifts at Christmas
is a well-loved figure of all. Most importantly, he is the patron saint
of children. Santa Claus has created an unforgettable picture in the

originated from the Turkish Bishop named
St. Nicholas who lived
in the 4th century AD. It is said that St. Nicholas was born in a very
wealthy family living in South Turkey. He was always very kind to people
and was famous for his benevolence for those in trouble. When his
parents died St Nicholas gave all his wealth in charity. He is supposed
to have died on
December 6 and thats why in some places a
St Nicholas Feast is celebrated on this day.
For many years, St Nicholas was considered the protector of children
but as the years passed he became the most popular Saint world over. His
kindheartedness and helping nature earned him the title of the
magical
worker. Meanwhile every nation emerged with a new story related to
the noble saint which eventually made Santa the most loved character of
children.

Santa Claus is portrayed as a short man with round belly, white beard
and wearing a red suit outlined with white fur. On Christmas Eve, he
comes on a sleigh pulled by eight reindeers from the North Pole. The
names of his reindeers are
Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet,
Cupid, Donner and Blitzen. Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer was added
later to the sleigh. Portrayal of Santa Claus and even his name differs
in countries across the world.
Santa - the Giver of Gifts
According to popular legends, on the night of Christmas Eve, Santa
Claus keeps the gifts under the Christmas Tree and in the stockings hung
by the fireplace. He is believed to be the giver of gifts without any
expectation. He presents gifts just to make little children feel good.
On the early Christmas morning, children get up to see what Santa has
put under the tree. Gifts include toys, sweets, candies, electronic
gadgets and other games. These are the priceless gifts which become the
most cherished memories for children.
